What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the treatment of injury, disease, and disorders through physical methods — such as exercise, massage, manipulation and other treatments — over medication and surgery.

Many people may believe that physiotherapists mainly work with back and sports-related injuries, but that is not always the case. Physiotherapists are highly trained health professionals who provide treatment for people suffering from physical problems arising from injury, disease, illness, and ageing.

A physiotherapist’s purpose is to improve a person’s quality of life by using a variety of treatments to alleviate pain and restore function or, in the case of permanent injury or disease, to lessen the effects of any dysfunction.

.About Us:

Nicole Duff Physiotherapist was born out of a passion from Nicole to give hope to patients. She had worked as a physio across 3 continents and once returning home realised that she needed freedom of her own, a practice to treat and care for patients in her way, day to day. The practice has varied passions including staying up to date with the latest international research, producing our own research to help make sure all patients are treated more effectively and also to help train up students as part of Wits University to create a new passionate age of physios. However ultimately the team cares deeply about our patients. We try bringing therapy to where its most effective and easiest for you and we promise to journey with you through your difficult time with compassions, empathy and towards your most important goals

What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is treatment for problems with speaking, language, and swallowing. It is given by a speech therapist, also called a speech-language pathologist. Speech therapy helps with using the voice properly and using the muscles to make the right sounds. It helps people understand language and express themselves.

About Us:

With years of experience, we understand how to work with our patients to ensure they receive the best care possible. Our thoughtful and personalised approach means we are fully committed to the health and well-being of all our patients

What We Offer:

  • Swallowing Disorders
    • A swallowing disorder, called dysphagia, is a difficulty or inability to swallow. Speech-language pathologists treat patients with a variety of speech-language and swallowing disorders. Our team maintains exceptional, high-level skills and clinical experience in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders. We devote a significant amount of our clinical practice and continuing education to diagnosing and treating this complex disorder. Because of this dedication and training, our team have learned the latest, state-of-the art clinical approaches and can most effectively and efficiently evaluate and treat individuals with swallowing disorders.
    • We have studied extensively and remain current on research in the field of swallowing and swallowing disorders. The Brainworx team provides appropriate, evidence-based treatment techniques to address the swallowing problem(s) of each individual, based upon a comprehensive swallowing assessment.
  • Speech and Language Disorders
    • Acquired speech and language problems may arise for a number of different reasons. These may include stroke, brain injury, acquired progressive disorders, head and neck cancers, dementia, motor neurone disease, and Parkinson’s disease. We offer assessment, specific advice and targeted therapy tailored to the patient’s needs. If appropriate, therapy may be offered in a one-to-one session, on a group basis or by training carers to support clients.
    • The team works closely with carers and other staff groups, such as doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and dieticians, to offer assessment and advice
  • Voice Treatments
    • Through a holistic approach to medicine, I view each patient as a whole rather than a single symptom to be treated. This is just one of many procedures I perform when coming up with any diagnosis.
    • We work within a multidisciplinary team, including ENT Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists to manage complex voice difficulties.
  • Transgender Voice Feminisation and Masculinisation
    • For years, patients have depended on me to provide this valuable service. I offer this and other specialized options to anyone in need of a Speech Therapist they can trust. Voice feminisation and masculinisation is a unique and specialised service and I’m dedicated to building long-lasting relationships based on trust and medical integrity with every single patient.

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.

Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes. Occupational therapy services typically include:

      • an individualized evaluation, during which the client/family and occupational therapist determine the person’s goals,
      • customized intervention to improve the person’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals, and
      • an outcomes evaluation to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.

Occupational therapy practitioners have a holistic perspective, in which the focus is on adapting the environment and/or task to fit the person, and the person is an integral part of the therapy team. It is an evidence-based practice deeply rooted in science.

About Us:

We are a group of Occupational Therapists dedicated to the well-being of our clients, where we strive to give our clients the absolute best therapeutic intervention.

Our therapists have over 13 years’ experience in assisting clients with physical and cognitive rehabilitation, returning to work, home and work adaptation and assistive devices.
